I will die Free
August is coming and on August 11th I will be 20 years clean:
Waitin for the storm, looking for the lightning and rain to arrive, when the time came I climbed the fence and ran for the river, behind me I could hear the hounds but I kept running cross the fields over the flooded road I ran, I could hear the guns firing in my direction, I felt a pain in my leg but I made it to the river and I jumped in and swam to the other side,
Now I’m standing in the rain on the shore I’m a free gal, but I wonder, as the world starts spinning, I wonder at what cost, if I die here at least I will die a free gal and no judge, no hangman can take that from me, I may die from all these gunshots, but I will die free, yes, I will die free.
They caught me just across the border half in and half out, the judge took one look at me and said I’m gonna throw every book I can at you and I jumped on the bench, knocked the judge over on my way out the back, blinded by darkened days and the fresh sunlight I just ran straight as I could and I still can hear the judge saying I’m gonna see ya burn in Hell for all ya done and all I could reply is if I die here at least I will die a free gal and no judge, no hangman can take that from me, I may die from all these gunshots, but I will die free, yes, I will die free.
20 years of keeping my front clean and keeping the hounds that hunt me off my back, go blind, go sane I’d rather be dropped in a deep dark hole than ever have another rope around my neck, no way I’m ever gonna take that ride again so if I die here at least I will die a free gal and no judge, no hangman can take that from me, I may die from all these gunshots, but I will die free, yes, I will die free.
